CapitOx was formed in Februrary 2008 as a means for Oxford students with an interest in Banking to come together to share their experiences and knowledge of the Banking industry and to form a relationship between Oxford and the corporate banking world.
Since then, CapitOx has expanded its scope with the creation of the ‘Trading and Asset Management’, ‘Management and Technology Consulting’ and ‘Actuarial and Professional Services’ divisions providing a place for Oxford students interested in all areas of finance to converge and discuss their ideas. A society providing this much scope within Oxford was unheard of until the formation of CapitOx and we are proud to offer a society which gives students a forum for financial discussion, a link to the financial world outside of Oxford and a springboard into their future careers in the banking, investment and consulting industries.
Over past three years, unique platform society offers attracted most talented students across wide range of subjects connected by passion to perform and vision of bright future.
CapitOx provides not only a connection between Oxford and the corporate world but also prides itself on giving students the opportunity to gain practical experience and knowledge by providing talks from high profile speakers, workshops, the ability to become involved in an investment team and much more. This allows students to develop crucial skills at University that will be prized by potential employers.
Activities
The aim of the Investment Banking division is to provide members with the essential skills and experience necessary to become the successful bankers of tomorrow. With a strong active membership base, the Banking division gathers together some of the most talented and dedicated finance-oriented students and provides them with the most conducive environment for the development of their passion and skills. It also aims to provide a forum for students to interact with some of the world’s most sought after graduate employers.
This division aims to ignite and kindle interest in many areas of banking among the Oxford students. It does so by turning extraordinary ideas into successful events.
The banking division plans and runs events that include talks by keynote speakers, skills workshops, networking sessions, conferences, and business trips. We have organised a range of events in the past, from talks about the financial crisis to the high-profile Oxford Investment and Banking conference, where leaders from some of the world’s most influential firms were able to share their insider perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing the Investment Banking, Asset Management and Hedge Fund industries. We also hosted a Hong Kong insight event last year, to provide students with maximum exposure to the wide range of career opportunities in finance and related industries available in Asia.
Formerly known as Oxford Consulting Society (OCS), we merged with CapitOx to deliver to you the best Consulting events in Oxford. We have worked with firms such as Accenture, BCG, Booz Allen Hamilton and Bain & Co., so you can be sure we know what it takes to become a successful consultant. Whether you see yourself reorganising the major Wall Street banks, or advising oil companies on their competitive strategy, Oxford Consulting will help you make a head start in your career.
We attempt to educate our members by obtaining access to some of the most successful and influential players in the financial markets today and in the past. These can range from fund managers and CEOs of global corporations to regulatory chairmen, politicians and entrepreneurs of some of the biggest brands you see today. We believe that the experience of some of these men and women who have unique viewpoints in today’s markets can be used to help educate some of the brightest individuals that Oxford has to offer.
CapitOx Actuaries strives to spark interest in actuarial work among the students and provide a platform for students who aspire to pursue a career in actuarial science to learn about the profession. Whether you are interested in applying the laws of Mathematics to work in investment and risk management, general insurance, life insurance or pensions, CapitOx Actuaries will help you make a head
The society works with The Actuarial Profession and several actuarial firms. It organizes events that include talks by actuarial firms, lectures by professionals and skills workshops. It also provides students access to the reading materials in The Actuarial Profession in Oxford.
CapitOx is one of the largest finance societies at the University of Oxford in terms of mailing list size and, as such, is able to communicate with the student body most effectively.
